Turbūt retas kuris sinefilas yra negirdėjęs Akiros Kurosavos vardo. Japonų režisieriaus kūrybinėje biografijoje yra tokie garsūs filmai kaip kad „Seven Samurai“ (1954), „Rashômon“ (1950) ar „Ikiru“ (1952). A.Kurosova laikomas vienu vakarietiškiausių japonų kūrėjų, kuris perėmė ne vieną Holivudo filmų stilistinę detalę. Jo filmuose gausu metaforų, simbolių, juodai baltos spalvos kontrastų bei didelio dėmesio muzikai.
Režisieriui didelę įtaką padarė rusų literatūra, ypač Fiodoro Dostojevskio kūriniai. Kaip poetiškai menininką apibūdino Openculture.com, A.Kurosova nepailstamai kovoja ieškodamas saulės spindulių tarp žmonijos sielų šešėlių.
1990-aisiais A.Kurosovai buvo įteiktas Oskaro apdovanojimas už viso gyvenimo pasiekimus, o ne viename svarbių žmonių sąraše jis tituluojamas kaip „viena iš svarbiausių ir reikšmingiausių Azijos asmenybių“.
Tad turbūt nekyla abejonių, jog A.Kurosovos sudarytas geriausių filmų sąrašas tikrai vertas didelio dėmesio. Tokį sąrašą režisierius sudarė pasistengdamas iš peties ir į jį sudėjo net 100 savo geriausių fimų! Sąrašas buvo išpublikuotas po jo mirties išleistoje knygoje „Yume wa tensai de aru“ („A Dream is a Genius“), o Kurasovos dukra štai kaip apibūdina tėvo filmų atrinkimo procesą, kuriame jai atiteko užrašytojos vaidmuo:
„Tėvas visuomet sakydavo, jog jo mėgstamų filmų yra tiek daug, jog net sunku suskaičiuosi ar sudaryti topą. Tai paaiškina ir faktas, kodėl sudarytame sąraše nerasite visų jo mėgstamo filmų. Tėčio principas renkant filmus buvo toks – vienam režisieriui skiriamas vienas filmas, apie kurio vertybes ir menines priemones mes diskutuodavome ne kartą“.
